Not the most productive 3-day weekend sewing wise. I assembled a princess-seamed, circle-skirted lilac polka dot dress.... only to realize I had no more dress-length zippers. I put that aside and started on a silk shantung pencil skirt, interlined with china silk.... only to realize I had somehow made it a smidge too small, and that I would need to let out the side seams. Monday me and the sweetie (who had been working a lot of the weekend) went to Brighton Beach and Coney Island. First we had lunch at one of the russian cafes on the boardwalk at Brighton Beach - greek salad, pelmini (tasty little russian dumplings) and chicken kiev, with a salt air apertif - and then walked down to Astroland, home to the Cyclone and Deno's Wonderwheel, which is visible in the background above. I normally forget that I'm so close to the Ocean - I live on an island (Brooklyn, the tip of long island), work on an island (manhattan) but hardly ever see the water - my daily subway commute takes me under the river, not over. But the Atlantic Ocean and the boardwalk are only about 40 minutes away on the Q train.
Monday night I threw together another dirndl while watching Law & Order. It came out well, and it was nice to finish ONE project.

Next weekend I have another 3 day weekend - my first Summer Friday - and maybe I'll have better luck then.

I just love your design aesthetic and look forward every day to see if you've posted something new. I also adore your dirndls!
Hi, I came to your blog through Sew Retro. Can I ask where in the world you found the fabric for this skirt?! I love it.
HI, glad you like my skirt! Its vintage fabric which I bought on ebay.
