I was inspired by the most recent post on sewretro, of a 40s wrap dress, to revisit the scissor dress. I'd finished it off with some snaps at the waist, but was still on the fence about the arms. I decided to wear it for a day to see how it felt.

I like it better than before - especially the neat drapey-wrap in the front - but I think there's something genuinely wrong with the sleeves, above and beyond the fact that they're mondo-puff. They bunch up funny when I move my arms forward (or slump). The armhole is also very high and tight. I think the dress genuinely needs shoulder pads - those would reduce a lot of the scrunch AND round out the mondo puff so it looked less 80s and more 40s. In the pattern picture below, the sleeves do not mondo puff!

Vacation day today, and I'm leaving for Philadelphia for the weekend. Its my HS reunion and mother's day, so a good time to go home. No sewing time, but I did bang out most of a new dress pattern last night when I should have been packing, so look for new pictures next week, assuming I finish inserting the zipper and hemming (which is what Sunday night HBO is for).
