Fabulous pants!

I don't normally ever wear pants, with the exception of jeans. Trying to find a pair that fits makes me want to cry because things that fit past my thighs (which never recovered from 4 years of field hockey) are too big at the waist. Plus, skirts and dresses are more fun and, when its not freezing out, more comfortable.

A couple of very cold days when I nearly got frostbite through my stockings trying to look presentable for client meetings and other No Denim Allowed occasions, however, made me reconsider. Someone on SewRetro had made the pants above, and I liked how they turned out. The one pair of "dress" pants I ever owned and liked in my postadolescent body had a fuller leg, so I thought these would do well. I bought some really nice drapey (and expensive) wool gab at Mood and made these. They were very easy and I am delighted with the fit. I wore them to work on monday even though the weather was above freezing! The only thing I would change is the pattern didn't make them long enough to wear Big Heels. See, if they were long enough to wear with fabulous platformed shoes, I could work the stilt effect and look supertall (which I am not). Unfortunately, even with a scant hem, these only work with 2" heels. Next time I'll lengthen the leg.

For those who like to know, the blouse is H&M, and the doggie is named Oscar Mayer.

Nice pants! I've got a question on the waist....is it a high waist (above bellybutton)? I've been looking for a pair like those and I'm too lazy to modify the patterns I already have.

The waist is at the "true waist". It would cover the belly button, but if you look at the pattern illustration, you'll note that there's a little dip in the waist band. This little dip exactly frames the belly button (at least for me). It wouldn't be hard to modify the pattern to exclude this little dip though!

Thanks guys.
The pattern number is Simplicity 4044. Simplicity makes a couple of great vintage patterns - I've also made their 50s style swing jacket (look at my old posts), which is from pattern 4047.
