I have been busy, but that has not precluded sewing. Last weekend I made a sundress - with pockets! - but have yet to post. I never seem to get around to posed pictures, and it was way too cold to wear it to work earlier this week. Then I was in San Diego on business, where I worked a grueling 22-hour day before flying back the next morning. San Diego was perfect sundress weather, but it was work, so instead I wore a vintage 50s suit I have. Its grey with a purple lining, and has a hidden pocket which I think was for glasses but is perfect for my beloved blackberry (although the blackberry outage in the NE made it useless on wed morning while I was at the airport). I also beat out several other people on ebay for the following border print (thank you, auctionsnipe!), from which I will make another dirndl.

Today I am going to the Manhattan Vintage Show. I've been once before. The prices are a little high for my taste but its so much fun to just go and browse. Its also neat to see how much dealers charge for things I have in my collection. I used to wear a lot of vintage dresses, but i find that now that I can sew, I prefer to make my own from vintage patterns, because I get to pick the details and colors. I do however still buy vintage cashmere sweaters, vintage beaded sweaters, and suits from the 40s-60s, the more conservative of which I wear for my job. My new rule for vintage (or new) is to buy if 1) I couldn't make it (because its not something I make, because its too detailed, or because its fabric I wouldn't be able to get it) or 2) its cheaper to buy than to make or 3)if its no fun to make (you will not catch me sewing underwear!). I intend to wear my new sundress and my new 40s wedgies.
