However, I'm not sure if I can call it a summer dress since today at work (where its freezing), I accidentally discovered that this dress looks FANTABULOUS with a cardigan in a contrasting color. Like yellow, which I wore today, or lilac, or red, or maybe even black... so I expect to wear this into early fall with a rainbow of sweaters from my stash of ebayed cashmere.
I made it from the sock monkey crazy dot in cream (yes, reprodepot) and a vintage pattern that I have to take a photo of. THese vintage patterns keep turning out less fitted than they seem on the envelope - I have to learn to ignore the pretty pics and pay attention to the pattern: bodice pleats for ease means it will be blousey! This time I top stitched the pleats down for about 4.5 inches to keep the blouse under control below the bust. Next time I think I'll try and transfer the darts from another bodice.
Likewise, the skirts always look so nice and slim! again, I should have known when I saw no back pleat or slit that this would be walkable and A-line.
I still love it though, especially with my new red ebay belt.

Wow! What a fantastic wardrobe - I think this is my favourite though I also really like the turquoise, and the eyelet - hell, I want them all!
Thanks so much! I'm lucky to work in an office where I can be a little creative in what i wear (these photos, except the sundress, are all standards in my weekday wardrobe).
I don't think blousy is the problem, I think consistently you make your dresses one size too large in the bust. The ease is already figured into the pattern, your measurement should match the patterns' exactly. Try that and you should see/feel a big difference. Remember how the dresses in old movies were form-fitting? That's what you are going for. Good luck.
Over the winter I finally thought to just buy a smaller size pattern, and everything works better. I just unpacked all my summer dresses from last year and was so dissapointed with the fit, compared to things I have made. I'm torn between giving them away and putting in the hours to try and alter them all...
