I finished the Hot Patterns denim diva wrap jacket today.
A royal pain.
First, I cut the pattern out a long time ago. I went to cut my fabric pieces and... NO CUFFS. I either lost the piece, never cut it out and threw it out with the scraps, or, also possible given my experience with the artful dodger jacket, maybe there never was a cuff.
I cut the pieces out. One of the first steps in the assembly was the creation of buttonholes. I am still scared of the buttonholer attachment after it mangled a few buttonholes when I first started using my machine (Keep in mind, this was almost 6 years ago). Plus, I was working with barkcloth, which unravels if you breathe on it, so i decided to make bound buttonholes. I have a few old books of sewing instructions, and the directions seemed pretty simple. This being me, the no-muslin, no-practice, no-patience cowgirl of the sewing world, I decided to make my initial attempt right on the garment in progress. It could have been worse, but it also could have come out a lot better if I had just done some practice ones first. I get mad at myself for not having the patience to do things right... but usually not mad enough to make me change
THEN I finally assembled the garment and went to sew my buttons on... and realized the right and left front pieces, somehow, are not the same size.
On the plus side, the cuffs I drafted turned out quite well. And I think that when the jacket is on (wrapped just so over a denim pencil skirt with some sleek high-heeled wedge sandals...) the flaws will be barely noticeable.
