I haven't stopped sewing, I've just been a very delinquent blogger! And bad about taking photos. What can I say? I've been really busy the past few months. Previously I wouldn't even bother to sew if I only had a half hour (I might use that time to blog instead!). Now if I don't want to go weeks without touching the machine, I need to try and fit my sewing into a half hour here or there.
Here are two dresses I made at the end of the summer, both from TNT patterns, and both from eyelet fabric.
Here are two dresses I made at the end of the summer, both from TNT patterns, and both from eyelet fabric.
White cotton eyelet from Gorgeous Fabrics over white cotton.
Navy eyelet pique from emmaonesock over white silk habotai.
Here are two of my early-Fall projects, both pencil skirts. The first is in this absolutely beautiful cotton canvas print (Etro I believe, by way of elliot berman fabrics), and the second is satiny fabric of some sort, a designer I don't recall, from emmaonesock. I love the patterned fabric pencil skirts I see in J Crew and other places, but have trouble finding bottom-weight patterned fabric to use this way. I lucked out with both these pieces.
Or so I thought... Both fabrics have virtually no natural give (as opposed to, for example, a woolen). This has been a bit of a problem. Neither skirt is super-tight (and the second one not tight at all), but I've still had a lot of pulling at the seams. Both are fully lined (first one interlined, second one properly lined) so I'm surprised by this! I'm not sure what to do to avoid it in the future, besides avoiding no-give fabrics.
I've actually sewn a few other dresses (just need to take some photos) and have a to-sew queue at least 5 items deep. I hope to be better about blogging and at least return to my previous average of once monthly. In the meantime, the less I sew, the more pleasure I get out of reading other people's sewing blogs (vicarious sewing!) so thank you to everyone who blogs their projects.

I've missed you and wondered what was up! Thanks for giving us and update and showing off a few new projects.
Me too! I've missed you too. THanks for the update. Your dresses are beautiful and the navy eyelet is definitely my fave.
Have you made the skirt pattern sucessfully before as I suspect that perhaps the skirt may be pegged a bit too much for when you sit and need an extra bit of room.
Glad to see you back! The dresses and skirts look great!
Very nice dresses and skirts; I adore the eyelet dress! Maybe cutting the lining a bit smaller would help with the pulling at the seams?
That navy dress is simply perfect. I wonder if you can transition it into Fall with boots and tights?
No advice on seam pulling--I've experienced plenty of it myself and haven't solved any problems!
Thanks guys!
I have made the HP pencil skirt many, many times before and I don't usually have a problem with seam pulling. That said, some of the 30+ skirts I've made from this pattern are tighter than others, so I don't think I'm the most consistent cutter!
Next time I use a fabric with no give I'm going to try to cut a little bigger at the low hip/top of thigh. This seems to be the area of biggest stress. I'm not surprised since in RTW my legs seem to be a good size larger than the rest of me. No complaints about my legs - I'm a runner and they get me where I'm going - I just need to cut things a little more generously to accomadate them.
