The prissy purple dress. Personally, i think it screams for little white gloves, a white purse with matching shoes, and afternoon tea after a day of shopping in the Big City.
Its a take-off of the basic dress I've made many times before. I finally tried the slim skirt option which was included in the pattern, although once the dress was assembled I had to really, really take it in, and as a result the fit is not as great as I'd like, but i've fiddled as much as I can, and hopefully I'll be the only one to notice.
I also drafted and made the collar.

I traced the edge of the neck facings to get the curve of the neck, and then drew it from there. I actually measured it and used a ruler and stuff, which never happens. I also picked up some beautiful (and pricy) grosgrain at M&J to make a waist detail. I used the remainder to line the neckline so if it gapes a little you see the ribbon, not the wrong side of the fabric. Finally, the bf said it looked like it needed something in the front, where the collar doesn't meet(which was by design),so I sewed on two vintage lucite buttons. Hurrah!!

Supercute! I have a similar Butterick dress pattern. I may try to add a collar and see what happens.
On the same side of the block as Steinlauf and Stoller, and further west, there's a great ribbon place that has tons of options and great prices. I never look at the sign to tell the name, so sorry I can't give more info!
