Here's another HP pencil skirt in a different colorway of the county fair canvas. I love this dot pattern - its all the fun of polka dots with the flattering advantages of stripes! Its paired with a J Crew blouse which just happened to match. This is the type of look I call "festive office". Fortunately, working for a small office where everyone knows me and my abilities, I feel a little more free to wear shall we say "less professional" colors on days I don't have client meetings. Wearing bright colors just makes me happy!
This is what may be my all time favorite summer dress pattern, again. Its Heather Bailey fabric I've had for a while. Really beautiful pink, orange, and brown dots. Again, the bottom half of this dress is interlined with pre-washed bemberg rayon. I ran the blue dress - the first dress I tried this method on - through the wash, and everything seemed fine, so this is now my go-to approach to summer dresses. It dramatically reduces the wrinkle factor.
I've noticed I tend to sew the same things again and again. I don't really get bored of it though, since I tend to use a variety of fabrics (in print and color, if not fiber content! In the summer I sew 90% cotton; in the winter 90% wool). I do however have a few new patterns in the works, including a 60s style jacket and a 40s halter, so look for posts on those soon.
Like many other sewists, I went a little bit nuts at the recent Vera Collection sale on fabric.com. OK, maybe a lot nuts. Like I bought a huge amount on day 1, and then went back and bought more the next day. I think this is by far the most fabric I've ever bought at once! On the other hand, I am well equipped for a lot of fall/winter sewing, and have a few things for now as well.
For summer I picked up some white cotton pique, white-on-white seersucker, and some of this brocade. I think the brocade will make a lovely late-summer jacket - something about the colors. It has a stiff hand, so I'm thinking a boxy 60s style jacket, to be worn with jeans or a skirt.
For winter, I bought material for a new coat. I also picked up some chartreuse silk to line it. I've noticed I kind of have a thing for superhero colors. My office mate commented that these were not superhero colors, they were Joker colors. Either way, I like saturated brights and contrasts. I'm taking suggestions for a coat pattern for this - I have three yards!
I also picked up material for two new fall/winter suits

I also picked up material for two new fall/winter suits
and two new dresses. These are suiting weight boucles, but I think they will make cozy 60s-style winter dresses, a la Joan from Mad Men. Thicker fabrics do add some bulk to the figure, but thats not something I worry about too much (at least if I like the fabric this much!)

We bought several of the same fabrics...the vintage green, the blue/purplish boucle and the white cotton pique...which I love! The others will have to grow on me!!!!
I really love the summer dress. It is very feminine. I love fun, bright colors as well.

Hey Carolyn - I just got mine in the mail too. The purple boucle looked so different compared to the website! I think I'll learn to love it with a little time - just not what I anticipated.
Great fabrics! Love the dress--very feminine and pretty.
I love the fabrics. I had a brown herringbone that is close to the one you have. I made a great pencil skirt out of it and paired with a matching solid brown wool bolero jacket. I will have to post pics of it on my blog sometime.
Hi - I just stumbled across your blog. You've turned the dress into an art form!
